Luisito Quintero “Music for Gong Gong"

"Music For Gong Gong" is a recreation and inspiration that came courtesy of Pete from BBE Records, UK, who asked Louie & Luisito to recreate it for the album. Pete has a relative in Osibisa. This is the band and composers who released the song originally in the 70’s. Louie Vega decides to take a whole complete different approach on this one. Louie Vega called on Nina Rodriguez a Yoruba singer to lend her vocals. Nina opens up the song with chants at the top of the tune along with backgrounds giving it that afro-beat signature vibe. Luisito also takes on a new first he and his son Anderson sings backgrounds on this one. This song follows the great continuation of the grooves heard on the first Percussion Madness album by Luis Quintero, a sublime blend of rootsy afro-beats & Latin rhythms with some contemporary New York touches, all produced to perfection by Louie Vega!

Originally inspired with a special story behind it, Louie was having a studio session while Musician & Singer Joshua Milan of Blaze happened to be in the studio as well. Josh at the time playing on the keys entertaining Louie’s little son Nico. Louie happened to listen to what going on and picked up on the melody, and decided to build a song around the harmony, with an end result of a wonderful release on Vega Records.
